Are You A Dreamer Or An Action Taker?
We are just over half way through the year and with only five months to go I wonder how many of us are taking the time to review where we are with our goals and what we do next?
Many people are jetting off for their summer break and this is a great time to reflect on the year so far and to formulate a plan for moving forward. We can get so busy with day to day life that it can be hard to step back and assess things and before we know it another year has passed us by. And if you’re anything like me those years seem to fly by quicker and quicker.
We start the year focused and with the best of intentions but life can get in the way and you can gradually keep moving further and further away from your goals. In fact, we often get in our own way without realising it and we can be the biggest obstacle to achieving our dreams rather than any external circumstance.
I’ve come to understand this even more since training in Psychotherapy and Counselling. I hear lots of people talking about really wanting their life to change but they only ever dream about it and never take action. Why? Because it feels safer to see change in their future, rather than leap into action now. They would rather feel the discomfort they are familiar with than push through their comfort zone and risk making changes and experience a way of being that feels new to them. Which one are you? A dreamer or an action taker?
Many of our fears are imagined and in reality they will never come to pass but they can be paralysing and really hold us back if we don’t keep ourselves in check. That’s why working with a coach can be a game changer. I integrate my Psychotherapy skills into my coaching to really drill down on the psychological blocks that kill a person’s success whether it be in their professional or personal life.
Once people realise how they are obstructing themselves and how the brain works they can take back control and gain the clarity they need to become laser focused about their future and really start to see the transformation they have dreamed of.
Next time you catch yourself saying “I wish I could do this or I can only do that once I have done this or one day I will be doing such and such” stop and think if you are pushing your dreams away from you by always keeping them out of reach and in the future or if you are serious about making a change and are ready to take action.
We have five months left to 2017. Make them matter.
